On Saturday (30.11.) I took the bus from Hervey Bay to Bundaberg. The journey normally takes 2 hours, but the bus was slightly late and we stopped for a meal at a gas station for about 30 minutes. Around 5 o'clock I arrived in Bundaberg, a city which is 15 kilometres inland from the Coral sea coast and situated on the Burnett River. It is a major centre within the Wide Bay-Burnett geographical region. The way to my hostel Bunk Inn was not too far. However, I was briefly shocked when I saw the locked building. But fortunately there were just guests in the lounge who opened the door for me. For the Self Check-In you need a code that I did not receive. After a phone call I finally knew in which room I will be staying. It was a double room, which was very artistically furnished in Swedish style. The whole hostel consists of two houses: an older one with a lot of charm, beautiful interior, kitchen, bathroom, lounge and a new one with loft-like kitchen with integrated lounge, very modern. You could have coffee, tea, water, toast and jam for free. The price also includes Laundry, WIFI, towels and Netflix. I felt very comfortable, so I would give 4 out of 5 stars.
On the first evening I walked through the Central Business District Bundabergs during sunset. I was really impressed by the charm: a typical Australian city with many pubs, bars, snack bars and shops. In the alleys I heard some live music, a great vibe. The next day I got up relatively early to see as much of the city as possible: my first stop was Alexandra Park, which includes a free zoo where you can see snakes, birds, wallabies, emus and lizards. Furthermore a Christmas dance was performed there. I walked the Riverside walk directly along the Burnett River. My destination was the rum distillery: for the most famous Australian Bundaberg rum. The way was long, but so I saw the main attraction of Bundaberg and visited the shop. In the end I went to a shopping center, which I can always recommend as a cool down, especially if the outside temperature is 32 degrees. I would always go back to Bundaberg, because the vibe is really relaxed and you can't see everything in one day.
